The third residency /// Welcome to Budapest
We’ve been in Budapest for four days for the third residency of the Kafka Project. We have only just begun the rehearsals and it is as intimidating as it is exciting.
There is no denying the fact that from the start we – the French, Romanian, Hungarian and Bulgarian artists – have realized how different our approaches are but we share a common enthusiasm and a real generosity in the creation of this project. We all know that we need a collective leadership but we all have a personal vision of the book, and thanks to Laurent Festas we are given the liberty to bring our knowledge and sensibility to our work.
The dance, the acting, the music and the singing … the light, the space … are as many an artistic language we hope to create a poetic atmosphere with.
Here is what we have been working on so far. The first canvas is the first confrontation between two universes, on the one hand the mask and the grottesque and on the other K. (played by Tamas Bako and his double Akos Dozsa). We only need to find the right way for them to coexist, to get together, to confront, and to figure out which one is closer to reality, which one takes over the other and how they converse with one another.
Other than that, Budapest is still beautiful and cold and our Hungarian chef takes great care of us
